- Choose your child's coach wisely. Make sure you are comfortable with his or her coach and that their coach has the same goals you and your child have. Making sure you trust them to safeguard your child and instill positive values in them can often calm a parents fears.
- Staying to watch your child's practices may or may not be allowed by the club and there are arguments both pro and con. If you choose to stay and watch you may have to hold your breath once in a while. Falling, accidents and injuries are all a part of the game and when your child takes a tumble off the beam you cannot go running to them each and every time. You have to once again trust their coach to call you if need be.
- Competitions and preformances can be particularily stressful so it is vital to get plenty of rest, eat well and train hard prior to and during any meet. Staying quiet the night before a meet and avoiding hotel pools and town attractions can help battle fatigue. Activities like going to a movie, having a quiet night in with games or movies or spending time with friends can all help gymnasts relax.
- Remember to maintain a regular routine. Have things like Mp3 players, favorite stuffed animals or a favorite book on hand to calm the gymnasts nerves and journals or books to calm yours.
